However people are free to change them, but if you want to fully control them, you can do so via GPO. And our imaging process sets the default icons we prefer on the Taskbar. Instead, we manage user a lot of user settings via GPOs - printers, desktop icons, etc. What we've seen is faster login times and a lot fewer profile issues. And any time I have to rebuild a user profile, I now turn off roaming for that user. Eventually we changed direction and moved everyone back to PCs where everyone had his/her own assigned computer. So at that point, they would be logging into whichever server was most available.
